NRP funds for hospitals and clinics. How to make use of them?

NRP in healthcare: how hospitals and clinics can benefit from EU funds

The year 2025 brings new opportunities for healthcare entities, including hospitals and clinics, to obtain funding. A great example of this is the National Recovery Plan (NRP), which allocates significant EU funds to be distributed among hospitals and clinics. Find out what investments are planned for 2025 and what you can take advantage of.

Development of digital services in healthcare under the NRP – key information for hospitals and clinics

The Ministry of Health has announced great news for hospital administrators and medical facility managers, including clinics. According to the announcement, in the first half of 2025, applications will open for the program: Investment D1.1.2 – Development of Digital Services in Healthcare. Through this program, hospitals can receive up to 100% funding for implementing modern technologies within their facilities. The funding covers, among other things, the implementation of specialized AI-based solutions in the healthcare system, including AI chatbots and voicebots for medical services. The support can also be used to enhance cybersecurity and digitize medical documentation. The goal is to help regional hospitals and other medical facilities modernize their IT infrastructure to meet current market demands and improve patient services.

A total of PLN 3 billion is available for distribution. The support can cover 100% of project costs with no requirement for own contribution. The maximum project implementation period extends until June 30, 2026. Once the call for proposals is announced, interested entities will have 30 days to submit their applications. This is yet another opportunity to secure funding for the healthcare sector in 2025.

What you can use funds from the National Recovery Plan for

We already know which investments can be financed with European funds obtained under the National Recovery Plan (NRP). These primarily concern the modernization of IT infrastructure and the implementation of modern technologies to improve the quality of healthcare services and patient support. Eligible expenses under this program for hospitals include:

  • the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare and the integration of platforms and software with the e-Health systems;
  • the purchase of modern IT equipment;
  • improving cybersecurity, including the protection of patient data and IT infrastructure in use;
  • digitization of medical documentation and connecting the medical facility to the central system.

What other forms of support can the healthcare sector benefit from in 2025?

The mentioned program, Investment D1.1.2 – Development of Digital Services in Healthcare, is another opportunity for entities in the healthcare sector to obtain funding for the implementation of IT systems and improving the quality of healthcare services. In 2025, it will also be worth keeping an eye on other funding programs such as:

  • Accessibility Plus for Outpatient Specialist Care (AOS);
  • NRP grants for Cardiology and General Hospitals;
  • Healthcare Infrastructure – AOS;
  • Healthcare Infrastructure – Primary Healthcare (POZ).

These are just a few examples. In 2025, the Minister of Health plans to allocate billions of zlotys from the NRP to improve the efficiency of the daily operations of the healthcare system in our country. It’s worth staying up to date and making the most of the available resources. This will make it easier to make investment decisions that would otherwise be difficult—or even impossible—to carry out using only hospitals’ and clinics’ own funds.

AI in healthcare – no longer just a vision of the future

The dynamic development of technology means that medical facilities can no longer ignore artificial intelligence. For years now, AI has been supporting the optimization of processes related to running hospitals and clinics, as well as communication between medical facilities and patients. This trend is expected not only to continue in the coming years but to grow even stronger. The responsibility lies with healthcare facility managers to stay up to date with available technologies and implement them effectively in practice.

Properly implemented AI solutions are already influencing, among other things, the development of disease diagnosis and therapy, as confirmed by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) report titled “Applications of Artificial Intelligence in the Economy. An Overview of Selected Initiatives and Technologies with Recommendations for Entrepreneurs.” But that’s just the beginning. AI-based tools are widely used in patient service areas, especially for:

  • managing appointment scheduling;
  • sending reminders about upcoming visits;
  • updating patients’ personal data;
  • collecting medical histories;
  • sharing test results.

In practice, this translates into significant time savings for both patients and medical staff. Many tasks and areas of communication can be automated, allowing healthcare professionals, including doctors, to focus on more complex issues and deliver even better patient care. The goal is to provide higher-quality services and improve patient health. The modernization of hospitals using AI tools is no longer just a distant vision—it’s a current reality. The coming years are expected to bring a real breakthrough in this area. Investment decisions in this field are made easier through access to external funding, such as government grants or EU funds.

Why is it worth using National Recovery Plan (NRP) funds for the medical sector?

There are many reasons why hospitals and clinics should participate in funding calls. It’s an opportunity to secure significant financial support, making it easier to make key decisions about developing IT infrastructure and expanding access to healthcare services. Available funding sources include EU funds, programs from the Ministry of Health, and initiatives at the regional level. The obtained funds must be spent in accordance with the rules of each specific program, so it’s essential to carefully review the guidelines and focus only on investments that qualify under the given competition.

It’s no secret that many healthcare facilities in Poland struggle with financial deficits and management challenges. External funds present an opportunity to modernize medical centers and implement technological solutions focused on optimizing operations and delivering even better healthcare.
