NRP for hospitals means billions of złoty – how can these funds be used for digitization?

How can hospitals use NRP funds for digitization and automation?
Running a hospital is a major challenge—and an even greater responsibility. On one hand, a hospital must remain financially viable; on the other, it should provide top-quality services that meet the modern expectations of patients. Advancing digitization and automation help to strike this balance. These processes are made easier thanks to funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRP). Here’s how hospitals can make the most of these resources.
KPO funds – why should medical facilities compete for billions in support?
The National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRP) presents an opportunity to obtain funding from the Ministry of Health to improve healthcare facilities. Competitions are launched regularly, and hospitals are eligible to apply. This is a chance to secure hundreds of thousands or even millions of złoty for investments in hospital infrastructure modernization, as well as in the development of both long-term and short-term care. Many medical entities would be unable to pursue these goals without external financial support.
Investments in hospital digitization and automation – how can NRP funds be used?
Each funding call is dedicated to specific objectives. In short, this means that the funds obtained can only be used to carry out the tasks defined in the call for proposals and its detailed regulations. A good example is the competition titled “Accelerating the Digital Transformation of Healthcare through the Further Development of Digital Services in Healthcare”, launched by the Ministry of Health in early April. Over PLN 3 million from the NRP has been allocated for hospitals under this call.
The funds can be used for a wide range of digitization and automation initiatives within hospitals. This includes the implementation of modern AI-based tools, such as medical voicebots for patient registration, conversational chatbots, and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. The goal is to improve hospital operations, enable faster and more accurate diagnoses, and enhance the security of patient data.

Stay updated on funding opportunities
It’s important to regularly check the official announcements from the Ministry of Health to avoid missing out on calls that are relevant to your facility. In total, billions of złoty will be available for allocation in 2025. These funds can be used to improve service quality, streamline hospital-patient communication, automate patient registration and service processes, and digitize data collection and distribution systems.
In 2025 alone, calls have been held for competitions such as:
- “Accelerating the Digital Transformation of Healthcare through the Further Development of Digital Services in Healthcare” (PLN 3.131 billion);
- “Development of Long-Term Care through the Modernization of Healthcare Infrastructure at the County Level” (PLN 1.3 billion).
From a hospital manager’s perspective, NRP funds are not the only source of external financial support. It’s also worth exploring other options, including:
- Healthcare Infrastructure – AOS;
- Accessibility Plus for AOS;
- Healthcare Infrastructure – Primary Care (PC);
- regional-level programs.
The healthcare sector is constantly facing financial shortfalls, which is why it’s worthwhile to seek funding from such programs—especially for district hospitals.
